How to Enroll in the District: Grades K-12
Step 1: Gather All Of The Required Documents
Certified birth certificate (original – not photocopy).
Parent/guardian photo ID.
Driver’s License
State ID
Passport
Green Card
I-94
Acceptable proofs of residency. See below.
Bring the child if a language other than English is spoken in the home for the state-required language assessment.
If your student has an IEP for receiving special education services, complete this Consent for release of information SpEd form.
Acceptable Proofs of Residency
Category A: Choose one from below.
Mortgage closing papers (homeowners, closing DEED). Intent to purchase will not be accepted. (must be within last 30 days)
Signed and dated lease WITH proof of last month's payment (receipt must be within last 30 days) or *Catholic Charities, Rock Valley Immigration office letter
"Affidavit of Residence" form - used when the person seeking to enroll a student is living with a District resident and the resident presents two acceptable proofs of address (form available at the Student Assignment Center)
Category B: Choose two from below.
Most recent Property Tax Bill AND proof of payment, e.g. canceled check or Form 1098 (homeowners). MUST BE WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS.
Current medical card(s) MUST include the Parent(s)/Guardian(s) current address.
Utility Bills (electric, gas, sewer, cell phone, etc.) MUST BE WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS.
Mail received at current address (only ONE piece of mail will be accepted) postmarked within the last 30 days accompanied by another proof from category B.
Step 2: Visit The Welcome Center or Enroll Online
Zone School Enrollments for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school year is now available online or in-person.
Special Program Lotteries for the 2025-2026 school year is now available online or in-person. RPS 205 offers several alternative special program schools that give our families a public education option outside of their regular neighborhood zone school. Online
To complete an enrollment online you must be able to upload all of the required documents in step 1. If you are unable to upload those electronically please proceed to the in-person enrollment instructions below.
If a language other than English is spoken in the home, the child must be given an in-person language assessment in the Welcome Center required by the state.

Complete the online enrollment form for the 2025-2026 school year and Special Program Lotteries by clicking HERE.
Respond quickly to any requests for additional information (ex. incorrect or blurry document submitted) to avoid interruptions in the enrollment.
Expect an email and/or phone call. Your child's enrollment is not complete until you receive confirmation of your child's school assignment by a Welcome Center specialist.
In-Person
To enroll for next school year, visit the Welcome Center. Students entering grades 6-12 may enroll at their zone middle or high school or at the Welcome Center.
Be sure to bring all of the required documents in step 1.

An enrollment specialist will confirm your child's school assignment during your visit.
