For the second consecutive year, Auburn High School Army JROTC cadets have risen to the challenge through their participation in the 2022-2023 JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB)!
After advancing through two intense phases of online competition, Auburn’s JROTC Academic Team – made up of team captain Lucille Schwartz, plus cadets William Rollins, Araceli Rios and Andrew Try – will compete in the 2023 U.S. Army JROTC Academic Bowl Championship. The event is June 23-27 on the Catholic University of America campus in Washington, DC.
During the two fast-paced preliminary rounds, cadets were tested on their knowledge of core curriculum such as math, science, and language arts as well as current events, citizenship, leadership skills, and financial literacy. The Auburn team earned top scores out of the 1,844 teams that competed from around the world. The team is one of only 32 Army JROTC Academic Bowl teams in the nation to advance to the final competition, which includes an all-expense paid trip to the event.
The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl is a nationally recognized competition created exclusively for JROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition, and college opportunity. The competition creates tremendous opportunities for JROTC cadets by allowing them to demonstrate leadership and academic abilities. This event is sponsored by the U.S. Army Cadet Command and is conducted by College Options Foundation.
