Children need our unconditional love — whether they succeed or make mistakes; when life is easy and when life is tough.BARACK OBAMA
The final day in the Week of the Young Child is Family Friday.
Whether they’ve had training or not, a parent is a child’s first teacher. Studies show that when parents are actively involved with their child’s early childhood education, they are more likely to stay involved when their child enters elementary school. Involvement in your child’s education can improve your child’s test scores, attendance, social skills, relationships, behavior and how they feel about school.
The RPS 205 Early Childhood program offers many opportunities for families to be involved in their child’s education. One opportunity is Opening Doors, which is offered in both Spanish and English. This parent education program provides sessions related to school readiness, family well-being, and advocacy. Another parent program, Incredible Years, focuses on strengthening parenting competencies and involvement in school experiences. This program promotes children’s academic, social and emotional skills and promotes school readiness skills. There are other workshops and experiences offered throughout the school year. For information on these programs and other opportunities, contact your school’s Family Support Specialist.
