The annual Illinois Report Card from the Illinois State Board of Education is out, and Rockford Public Schools have made strides over the 2023-24 school year.
“After years of hard work from dedicated teachers, administrators and these incredible students, we have a lot to be proud of,” offered Superintendent Dr. Ehren Jarrett. “But there is still much more work ahead to fully reach the vision we have for Rockford’s future.”
Among the achievements in the past year, the report shows significant improvement in literacy among 3rd to 8th graders. Graduation rates improved by five percent year-over-year. The Freshman on Track rate has maintained notable gains since 2019. Across the board, Rockford Schools are making progress. “As a district, as a community, we’ve come together,” said Dr. Jarrett. “We’re working together to create the conditions for success, inside the classroom, and out.”
Over the past year, the district has made a real commitment to more equitable schools and the collective power of collaboration to drive success, ensuring that every student, every teacher, and school thrives. “No matter who you are, no matter what zip code you’re from, you can succeed here at RPS 205,” said Dr. Jarrett.
The state report card is a useful tool for schools and educators to gauge progress. The district believes it’s a chance to celebrate success while re-dedicating themselves to the work ahead.
“Schools like STEAM Academy at Haskell – they’re now rated exemplary. Kennedy & Lincoln have all doubled their summative scores in just one year. But our work isn’t finished,” said Dr. Jarrett.
He points to a vision where everyone plays a role: principals who lead the charge, teachers who focus on learning, students who have all they need to succeed, and community partners who are always there with critical support.
“For all of us, this is a rallying cry,” declared Dr. Jarrett. “For more student achievement. Increased graduation rates. An RPS 205 that’s rated higher, stronger, better than ever before.”
