Susan Uram, Director of Educational Technology, brought what these 1st - 5th graders now want for Christmas (!!) straight to them when she helped this local Girl Scout troop earn their Coding Basics badge this November. Bee Bots and Indie Bots were all the rage for 2 Tuesday nights as Susan had the girls critically thinking through how to make each robot move and interact.
In Girl Scouts, girls experience science, technology, engineering, and math through engaging activities that relate to their interests to impact the world. The Coding Basics badges for each level of Girl Scout (Daisy, Brownie, Junior & Cadette) is awarded to girls who learn how programming can help others and solve problems. Troop #2098 learned basic coding vocabulary, practiced sequencing and had fun working together to make their bots follow commands. Susan's enthusiasm, engagement and willingness to volunteer her expertise and time on a weeknight made it such a fun, meaningful learning event!
Troop 2098 is largely made up of RPS students. Thank you, Susan, for supporting our students during school and in their extra-curricular activities!
