Restorative Retreats

By: Emily Rehfeldt

On February 19 and 20, Barbour students in grades 3rd-5th and 6th-8th, participated in our second annual whole-day restorative retreats. The goal for these retreats was to create a culture of respect, inclusion, communication, team-building, and goal-setting.

Our amazing teachers and support staff led our students through nine different rotations. Examples of activities included vision-boards, restorative circles, creating team-chants and shields, collaborative games, and relay races.

All students were valued team members throughout the day and had the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings with their classmates. We are very proud of our restorative retreats and the work our staff and students are doing.

We love our students and staff at Barbour!

About the Author:

I have been a school counselor at Barbour for six years. Prior to being a school counselor, I worked as a special education teacher at West Middle School and Eisenhower Middle School. I love working with kids and feel very fulfilled in my career. When I am not working, I am spending time with my four little boys and husband.
